Tension, a newly minted free clipper plugin from Carbon Fiber Plugins, has just arrived on the scene. This Windows-only VST3 offering is designed to give you more control over your sound without introducing nasty side effects like aliasing noise.
But how does it work its magic?
Underneath Tension’s sleek interface lies a custom “Deep Fix” architecture that sets it apart from typical hard clippers.
By employing 4X oversampling and using 2nd-order maths, the plugin promises precision and accuracy you won’t find elsewhere. The result is a cleaner sound with fewer artefacts, making it perfect for delicate audio manipulation.
So, what makes Tension tick?
For starters, there’s the drive control, an advanced ADAA system that lets you push your sound harder while maintaining a smooth, artefact-free delivery.
Then there’s the Pulse function, which sharpens the fastest hits in your audio to give you crisp, pristine percussion and hats without sacrificing presence.
But Tension doesn’t stop at just drive and pulse – it also features Weave knob, which lets you shift tonal balance from bright to dark (and everything in between) with visual feedback.
And if that’s not enough, there are several character-altering features to explore: Age and Character controls for a vintage vibe, and a wavefolder for added complexity.
Carbon Fiber Plugins is a small but mighty team based in Taiwan, dedicated to recreating the grit and character of old Taiwanese and Japanese Hi-Fi/KTV systems.
