Rap music prodigy Lil Wayne’s 2008 hit song ‘Lollipop” is certified “Diamond” by the Recording Industry Association of America. With this, the Young Money CEO adds another achievement to his hip-hop career.

After the news was announced by the RIAA Dwayne Michael Carter Jr, Lil Wayne thanked his fans around the world for buying 10 Million+ copies of the song. He posted a video telling his fans how much they mean to him and that without them, it wouldn’t have been possible. He also mentioned the fact that it’s not play/streams but buys which points toward having such sales is difficult as an artist.

The track Lollipop was released in the year 2008 and was a part of the album called “Tha Carter 3.” The album was ranked as one of the top-tier albums at the time and also called ahead of its time due to the production and style of the album. The album was sold 1 million times in a week after its release creating a record for the hip-hop legend. And, after the track Lollipop has hit a diamond, it looks like the album proved its test of time and can still pull up more success for the artist.

“The song “Lollipop” spent 5 weeks at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart, marking the beginning of the digital era for rap singles sales.”

Wheezy F. also credited the collaborator late Static Major who has also been instrumental in the career of artists like Timbaland and more. Static passed away due to health complications in 2008, not long before the release of “Lollipop.
