Outobugi Unveils Free EQ plugin ‘Toner’ for Windows

Outobugi has just unveiled Toner, a new shaping equalizer plugin, available for free to Windows users.

If you’re not yet acquainted with Outobugi, the Finnish developer has made a name for itself with a collection of free plugins that are a goldmine for producers. Although these plugins are currently exclusive to Windows, there’s hope that macOS versions might be in the pipeline.

Outobugi has lately been releasing a lot of new plugins of different kinds, Refire being one of the last released which had a top-notch sound for a free plugin.

Now, Outobugi is back with Toner, a free, four-band tone-shaping EQ plugin for Windows.

Toner offers a range of features, including saturation and de-emphasis, providing a versatile tool for tone shaping. Each of the four bands has two modes (Left to Right/Mid to Side), with controls for Frequency, Gain, and Balance. The low and high bands function as shelving filters, while the mid bands operate as bell filters.

Post-EQ, you can dial in some warmth using the Saturation knob, which adds odd harmonics to the signal. The De-EQ (de-emphasis) and Delta controls are located on the right side of the interface. De-EQ applies an inverted EQ setting, while Delta subtracts the dry signal from the wet, giving you precise control over your sound.

Additional controls include an Output knob, which adjusts the gain after the Delta processing but before the Mix, and a Mix knob to blend the dry and wet signals.

The interface continues Outobugi’s signature sleek and minimalist design, offering several color schemes to suit your workflow.

As with any independent developer, there might be a few quirks and bugs along the way, but that’s par for the course. Outobugi is clearly on a promising trajectory, with some of their plugins already being downloaded tens of thousands of times. Plus, their eye-catching design doesn’t hurt either.

Toner is available as a 64-bit VST3 plugin for Windows.
