Krush – Free Bitcrusher VST/AU Plugin By Tritik

Tritik’s bit crusher gem Krush, is a fantastic free tool designed to enhance your music production experience. This plugin is like a Swiss army knife for your sounds that can function as a bitcrusher, clipper, and multi-mode filter. And, it’s compatible with both VST and AU formats, making it easy to use on your PC or Mac digital audio workstation.

As a great company, Tritik is no stranger to innovation, having previously wowed the music community with their Moodal resonator effect and TkDelay plugin. Krush was their feature in the distortion category.

There is a pro version/paid version of Krush, you can call it Krush 2.0, it has more features, with multiple audio shaping effects and modules. Though, the free version is enough and can the job done.

As you dive into Krush, you’ll find a range of distortion options, including a clipper, bitcrusher, and downsampler. It also features a resonant multi-mode filter with high-pass and low-pass modes, covering frequencies from 20 Hz to 20 kHz.

What makes Krush stand out is its unique modulation section, giving you more creative possibilities compared to other free bitcrushers.

The interface of Krush is user-friendly and adjustable to your preferences. You can resize it as you like, and the layout includes sliders for adjusting the dry/wet signal levels seamlessly. Keep an eye on the modulation amount, which is visually displayed on the knobs in a vibrant yellow color. For more precise adjustments, use CTRL+drag, and if you ever want to start fresh, a simple double-click resets a parameter to its default value.

Krush even has a handy freezing feature for parameters, preventing them from changing when you load new presets. The plugin takes modulation control a step further with an LFO that offers four waveform options – sine wave, triangle, square, and noise. Whether you want it to operate freely or sync with your host program, the LFO puts you in control.

To make things even easier, Krush comes with 25 presets sorted into Crushing, FX, and Modulations categories. These presets range from simple distortion and lo-fi effects to more intricate patches with extensive modulation. Dive into the complex presets, especially if you’re working with sounds like pads and atmospheres, and add a touch of movement with a hint of the wet signal.

While Krush is an excellent sound design tool, it’s not without a few tiny quirks. For instance, some users might appreciate a bit more speed for the LFO in free mode, maybe up to 20 kHz. An auto-gain option for the resonance knob could also be handy to balance the current reduction in output volume.

Despite these minor considerations, Krush by Tritik is undeniably one of the finest free lo-fi multi-effects tools out there.
