Singer Dua Lipa Granted Albanian Citizenship

Albanian-originated pop music artist Dua Lipa was granted Albanian citizenship on November 27 by the country’s president, Bajram Begaj. The president also appreciated her efforts in promoting Albanian fame with her music.

The decree was granted to Lipa ahead of the 100th anniversary of Albania’s independence from the Ottoman Empire. The pop star said “I will be an Albanian with papers too,” before taking her citizenship oath at Tirana city hall.

She announced the news via her Instagram, sharing the posts from the ceremony which is of utmost importance to her.

President Bajram Begaj also posted the same on his Social media stating “Happy to give the one and only @DUALIPA the decree of Albanian citizenship. She has made us proud with her global career and engagement in important social causes.”

The Grammy Award Winning singer was born in London to Albanian parents Anesa and Dukagjin Lipa, from Kosovo. She started her musical journey at a very young age and started uploading her music on Youtube at just 14 years old.

Her self-named debut album released in 2017 got her a lot of fan following. She also received a Grammy for Best New Artist in 2019 for her work.
