Hip-hop fans are rejoicing with the news that the highly anticipated MacLib album by Mac Miller and MadLib is finally on its way. Madlib recently appeared on Sway In The Morning alongside Talib Kweli to promote Liberation 2, where he revealed that he is wrapping up the album with Miller posthumously. The legendary producer is also working on a project with Erykah Badu, and he has a Planet Asia album in the works. Madlib confirmed that Mac’s family had green-lit the release of the album, a full 180 from his previous statement in 2019 that there were no plans to release the project.
The relationship between Mac Miller and Madlib began when they worked on Freddie Gibbs’ Pinata, with Madlib sending Miller beats from time to time. Eventually, Miller sent records back, which led to the creation of an “EP’s worth of music,” according to Madlib’s manager, Eothen “Egon” Alapatt. Thelonious Martin revealed in 2019 that Madlib played a Mac Miller joint during his DJ set, which led to the revelation that there was an entire album of unreleased tracks.
While the project’s release has been uncertain until now, fans are hopeful that they will finally hear the album in its entirety later this year. Stay tuned for more updates on MacLib.
