Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari, on October 4, 2021, announces the replacement of vehicle horns with Indian musical instruments.
In a highway inaugural ceremony, Mr.Gadkari vows on putting an end to these red beacons and replace the shrill noise of the sirens of ambulances and police vehicles with a more pleasant tune played on the All India Radio. “Now I want to put an end to these sirens as well. Now I am studying the sirens(used by) ambulances and police”, he says.
Mr.Gadkari plans on implementing the tune played by Akashwani (All India Radio) for all ambulances and police vehicles. He adds, “I am thinking of using that tune for ambulances so that people feel pleasant. It is so irritating, especially after Ministers pass by, the sirens are used at full volume. This also harms the ears.”
Apart from this, the Union Minister reports about the construction of the Mumbai-Delhi highway connecting Bhiwandi and the periphery of Mumbai – Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust. He comments that unable to link Bandra-Worli to Vasai-Virar as the then PWD minister of Maharashtra, he now plans on building a highway on the Vasai creek. He further added, “I plan to build a bridge in the sea and link it to the Bandra-Worli Sea Link, and then it should take 12hours(to cover the distance between) Nariman Point to Delhi. This will decongest the Western Express Highway reducing the rate of accidents.”
Concerned with the high rates of people dying due to road accidents in Maharashtra, the Union Minister makes it compulsory for the vehicles to be equipped with six airbags. Also, he announced that the four-lane Nashik-Mumbai highway will be soon made six lanes at an estimated cost of approximately Rs.5,000 crore.
Besides these, a double-decker two-lane flyover on Dwarka-Nashikroad and Surat-Solapur highway via Nashik are on their way to be constructed. “Not a single assurance given by me will prove a lie”, says Gadkari. He further added that besides boosting the development of the state, the environment should be preserved simultaneously while achieving this development.
