AI-Generated Songs Set to Disrupt the Music Industry

Generative AI tools are increasingly being used to generate text and visual content that is shared on the internet. However, the use of AI in audio and music creation is also gaining momentum. A recent example is a viral track featuring Drake and The Weeknd that was entirely created by AI, without any involvement from the artists. This highlights the potential disruption AI could bring to the music industry, although the industry has expressed strong opposition. Meta’s latest generative AI model, called ‘MusicGen,’ focuses on using AI to create new music. By providing text or melody prompts, MusicGen can generate variations of audio based on different song samples and instrument styles. The model has been trained on 20,000 hours of music, offering a wide range of inputs for AI-generated creations. While legal challenges may arise, as the music industry seeks to protect copyright, the development of AI-generated songs seems inevitable. This technology not only has the potential to replicate existing music but also opens up new possibilities for creating original music for various purposes.
