Signal Perspective has unveiled the Grindbox Mk2, a distortion plugin designed to elevate your sound-shaping arsenal. Available as a VST3 and AU plugin, Grindbox Mk2 is a versatile tool that can function as an amp simulator for bass or guitar, a subtle saturator for coloration, an exciter, or a full-blown signal destroyer.
According to Giorgio Presti, the founder of Signal Perspective, Grindbox Mk2 emerged from his early experiments with waveshaping techniques in audio processing. “The dirt box,” as he calls it, is built on a modern framework featuring 384kHz oversampling and a sleek, user-friendly interface.
Grindbox Mk2 is packed with features, including continuous morphing between cabinet simulations, various static transfer functions, a mic simulator, a limiter, a resonant low-pass filter, Auto Gain, tilt EQ, slew rate distortion, variable topology settings, and, of course, the 384kHz oversampling. With this level of flexibility, it’s hard to believe the plugin is free.
Presti’s dedication to crafting a robust, feature-rich tool is evident, and it’s clear he poured a lot of passion into this project. The plugin is donationware, meaning users can support Presti’s work (and pizza cravings) via a PayPal link on the product page.
Direct download links are available for Windows, macOS, and Linux, with the option for manual installation if needed. Some Windows systems might flag the installer as a trojan virus—a false positive that can be avoided by opting for manual installation.
While there isn’t an official audio demo for Grindbox Mk2 yet, which can be a bit disappointing. But, he plugin excels at crafting a wide range of tones, from subtle warmth to outright gnarly distortion, especially when higher drive settings and mods are engaged.
