The rise of AI-generated music has been a topic of discussion in the music industry, with some seeing it as the future of music while others are concerned about the potential erosion of human creativity.
The recent viral song called Heart On My Sleeve used AI to clone the voices of Drake and The Weeknd, with the creator claiming that it was created by software trained on the musicians’ voices.
While the technology has impressed some, others have criticized it for lacking human-generated music’s emotional depth and creativity. As a response, a coalition of musicians and artists has launched the “Human Artistry Campaign” to ensure that AI does not erode human creativity.
The group has outlined seven principles advocating AI best practices and has stressed that copyright protection should only be afforded to music created by humans. While AI may be a valuable tool in music production, it is unlikely to replace the taste and emotion that human artists bring to their work.
