Devraj Bhaumik Leaves A Mark With Debut EP ‘Heaving To’

Working on it for 3 years, Devraj Bhaumik, the Mumbai-based composer, producer, and sound engineer, has weaved magic in the form of his debut EP ‘Heaving To’. The album which consists of three tracks is nothing less than a surreal feeling for the fact how the tracks make listeners awe-struck.

Being the first track of the album, ‘Cast Off’ beautifully introduces the mood that the story of the EP wants to convey. Starting with synths, it is surprising how after the addition of electric guitars and other rock elements, it merges with the elegance of a violin narrating a lonely soul and then goes again to the post-rock aura. The melancholic and gloomy nature of the album is best expressed at the onset of the second track ‘Under The Weather’ with the perfect inclusion of some unconventional acoustic guitar sounds blended with the sorrow that a violin brings in. Designing the drum section skillfully, Devraj has maintained to keep away any monotonous beat structure. The motive of the EP to depict a ship seeking to find its harbor is also shown with the title track ‘Heaving To’ using the sounds of the waves in a sea with a hope-giving melody alongside the insertion of ambiance creating elements to delicately end the album leaving a deep mark on the listeners.

The poetic imaginative quality of Devraj can be felt through the album’s artistic approach in each of the tracks to paint a single story. Every artist involved surely deserves great applause for the way they made ‘Heaving To’ a masterpiece with their perfection.
